The confidante speaks:
Dear one whose words are sweet as honey,
He is the Lord of the hill on whose crest clouds rest;
He wouldn`t have gone at all.
The hunters in his hill draw their arrows upto their ear
But shoot not the darts as they behold their target --
the deer
Whose eyes are very like those of their women.
O beauty of bright forehead,
do not vex yourself
Like them that hail not the King of fecund Tillai.
Translation: T. N. Ramachandran,Thanjaavoor ,1995
(Maid consoles heroine, assuring of hero’s steadfast love)
O! Lady of honey-sweet-words! Kuravas
In the wild, to down a hart, would hitch
A dart to their bows. The thought that their spouses
Are deer-eyed, would alter their aim and give up game
Such is the hilly-terrain for which
Our Lord is chief. How may he part with us in full?
Hence, O, Lady with fair forehead! Why shrivel in sorrow
As they that submit not to Tillai Lord?
(Holy Grace explains to Civai Soul’s stance)
Translation: S. A. Sankaranarayanan, Kumbakonam, 2014
