The hero speaks:
The Lord of Puliyur smote the sun blind
And caused him to assume a low birth.
How can I take leave of her whose that hail Him
not?
If I stroke her softly,
she`ll feel bewildered;
If I speak to her sweet words,
she`ll inly tremble;
If I boldly declare my intent,
she`ll not understand;
She`ll only be thrown into utter confusion;
I cannot apprise her of my parting by any means.
Translation: T. N. Ramachandran,Thanjaavoor ,1995
(Hero leaving without a word)
Were I to caress her forehead and shoulders,
And begin, in apprehension she may dizzy;
Or tell straight, she’d shudder,
Won’t assent with calm my leaving and quick return;
No way to convey! Dark as the hearts
Of they that reach not Tillai of Lord
Who punished the Day star to dim are her dark locks.
How may I tell what and take leave?
(Being in apartness is after doing, to gain Release)
Translation: S. A. Sankaranarayanan, Kumbakonam, 2014
