The heroine speaks:
O dear one of dazzling ear-rings!
Pure am I like them that hail Tillai
The Lord of which parts not from my lips and heart.
I`ll even swear if you aren`t convinced;
May all others sneer at me;
May the whole town jeer at me;
May my mother in wrath leer at me;
May you also incensed,
fleer at me.
I`ll narrate what happened.
Translation: T. N. Ramachandran,Thanjaavoor ,1995
(Heroine whispers to her maid of her chaste love)
O, friend adorned with ear-rings and studs fair!
I swear on you hard in all purity as of Tillai devotees
Who swerve not from my heart, word and deed;
Let the aliens cavil; the town gossip and mock at;
My mother even be struck in fear;or you, you, resent
Me for all I am. I care not. Recount I shall in the open
The love-affair of mine, all all that happened.
Little bothered of it all I am, doesn’t matter.
Mind you, you listen to me, as I would you should.
(Civam assures grant of grace to Being)
