కైలాసాన్ని రావణుడు పైకెత్తి నపుడు హిమ వంతుని కూతురు పార్వతి భయంతో వణికి పోగా రావణుని ఇరువది చేతులు కిరీటాలున్న పది తలలు నలిగే టట్లు శివుడు ఆ పర్వతాన్ని కాలి బొటన వ్రేలితో త్రొక్కాడు.
రావణుని గర్వమణగి అతడు శరణు జొచ్చి రుద్ర వీణా గానం చేయగా శివుడతడిని మెచ్చి ఒక ఖడ్గాన్ని బహుమతిగా అతని కిచ్చి లంకాధిపతి అయిన అతనికి \'రావణుడ\'ని నామకరణం జేశాడు.
జటలో నెలవంకను గలిగి ప్రకాశవంతమైన వెలుగుతో నల్లారులో వసించే శివుడు అమృత మయుడు.

ඔසවනන්ට තැත් දරද්දී‚ හිමගිරි දූ තැති ගත්තේ
රුපුගෙ දිගැටි කෙස් වැටිය ද හිස් දසය ද බාහු විස්ස ද
මැඩ ජයගත් විට‚ මිහිරි සර බැති ගී නදින් සමිඳුන්
කිත් ගොස පසසා දෙව් රද පහදවා කගපතක් ද නාමය ද

लंकाधाीश रावण के द्वारा कैलाश पर्वत को उखाड़ने से
पर्वत पुत्राी उमा देवी के भयभीत होने पर,

and after hearing the sweet music sung by him, after his pride had gone.
Civaṉ of unbounded liberality who gave him a sword to be held in the right hand and the name of Irāvaṇaṉ.
who has the form of light and on whose caṭai the crescent stays with beauty, the god in naḷḷāṟu and the nectar.
